Discover Your Musical Talents at Making More Musicians

Jahruba is an experienced African hand drummer and educator who has studied with master drummers and street musicians from around the world. He has spent more than 20 years sharing African drumming with schools, universities, senior centers, churches, libraries, and communities across the region.

Through the Jaz Lambeth Foundation’s Making More Musicians program, Jahruba brings students an engaging and culturally rich learning experience centered on rhythm, connection, and creativity.

Students will be introduced to the rich tradition of African hand drumming. Classes feature traditional percussion instruments such as the djembe and supporting rhythm drums commonly used in West African ensemble drumming. Students will learn rhythm, ensemble playing, call‑and‑response, listening skills, and the communal energy of playing together in a circle of drums.

Guided by experienced instructor Jahruba, these workshops help students build musical skills, confidence, focus, and connection through group drumming. No experience needed.

If you don't have your own instrument, no problem! We have everything you need ensuring you have the best learning experience!

Whether you are registering a young musician or joining yourself, each class is designed to be welcoming, skill-building, and community-centered.

Adult Classes

A welcoming and engaging class experience for adults who want to explore African hand drumming, rhythm, and community.

Mondays & Wednesdays 6:00 PM – 7:15 PM

4 Weeks • 8 Total Classes 

Youth Classes

A fun, confidence-building group class where youth can learn rhythm, teamwork, musical creativity, and focus.

Tuesdays & Thursdays 4:30 PM – 5:45 PM

4 Weeks • 8 Total Classes

Ready to join the class? Spots are limited, so we encourage early registration for both youth and adult sessions.

No experience is required. Just bring your interest, energy, and excitement to learn.

The Jaz Lambeth Foundation offers scholarships to help make these classes accessible to more students and families.

Classes are $300 per student.
